As info is posted everything else moves down the page. Please scroll down for ALL the news. Sorry but we post a lot of stuff and things don't stay at the top long

Nitro Offroad

Wed Dec 31, 2008 1:53PM

The 2009 Nitro Offroad rules are now online HERE . The rules include 1/8 Electric Buggy & Arena Truck rules.

This year we will offer 1/8 Electric Buggy at State and division events. Yes it IS a National Championship class! Why not Arena Truck too? Lets see the support for buggy and we will go from there.

The Monster Truck rules have been modified as described in a previous post. With the opening of the rules the class name has been changed! Monster Truck is now EXTREME TRUCK!! The class has been opened up to allow any motor size and no fuel tank limit. If this does not increase turnout for the class then in 2010 it will become a State Series class only.

After several discussions last night it seems most of the Monster Truck guys would prefer a different name which is fine with me sooooooooo the official name now is Pro Mod Truck.

Updates

Tue Dec 2, 2008 8:20AM

To start with sorry for the delay on this we normally have the schedule and rules updates out before now. This year has been challenging for RC Pro with the ecomony and various personal/health issues I am having right now. For 2009 I have to cut back on my travel schedule. It's become apparent I can't keep the pace I have had over the last 4 years. I am talking to people I know and trust about handling some races in several divisions. Luckily over the years I have met a few people I feel can run an event the way I want it done to maintain consistency. I will take care of all the races in some divisions but atleast one race in each division maybe more if I can get away with it.
We all know how bad the economy is right now and it is causing cut backs in racing and traveling for a lot of people. As we all know travel and everything in general has gone up this year but RC Pro will hold the pricing for division events that we have had now for the last 5 years.
Also with the growth of RC Pro it is important for me to stay in the office more than I have in the past to stay on top of everything better. As most have seen we are expanding to Australia in 2009 with a possible full series in South Korea.
We also have an announcement coming soon about a National Club Series. The idea is to be able to race at your local track and score points for a National Club Championship. Only one ot two specific classes will be used and any track of any size will be able to signup for the series. There will be no cost to the tracks to compete in this series. RC Pro will not receive any portion of entries for this Club Series.
The club scene has become non existant in recent years and needs a serious infusion of interest. The industry can't keep losing tracks like it has been so we need something to make racers more interested in running at thier local track.
Once we have all the info together for this we will make an announcement.

A special thanks goes out to all our sponsors for this year and previous years. We could not do this series without the sponsors. If you have the chance to talk to one of their reps please thank them for supporting your racing.

thanks
Carlton

Rules updates

Tue Dec 2, 2008 7:55AM

The new Pro Class has some people confused. As mentioned in the rules from this year you have to qualify to run in the Pro class. Like all other forms of racing you have to qualify for the top level class not just anyone can signup for this class. There will be a list posted of the racers who have qualified for Pro class and can run in it in 2009. The qualification for Pro is based on performance not who someone feels should be there. If you think you should be there then go out and perform! As with anything there is a possibility all the qualifying parameters could occasionally miss someone so with this in mind this year during qualifying if someone blows away the expert class in qualifying during an event, their times are good enough to place them in the top 12 in Pro they will be moved into Pro before the mains are setup.
The Open Buggy/Arena Truck Class (old Expert classes) are open to all racers no matter what level of sponsorship. The Open class and a large portion of the Intermediate class will now be pretty close to the same speed. This should  take care of a lot of the "Sandbaggers" as everyone calls them in Intermediate. The Open class will have it's own division and national championships. At the end of the year after the finals the top 3 in each division will be qualified for the Pro class for 2010 also the top 10 nationally will qualify for Pro.
It's become very apparent over the last 4 years it's almost impossible to know who has sponsorship and who doesn't in Intermediate so now things will be different this year. One of the common excuses is I didn't know I couldn't. So this year if you sign up for Intermediate you will be required to sign a statement that you have no motor or chassis sponsor and if during the year it is discovered you do have one of any percentage you will immediately be bumped to Open and loose all points. Also in a racers 1st event qualifying times will be monitored as with Open/Pro and if your qualifying times would place you in the middle of the B main or higher in Open you will be bumped to that class. As a 3rd way to regulate this class track owners will be asked to consult on their local racers as to who should be in Intermediate. The Intermediate class is designed to be an introduction class for large events and a place for the newer racers or older drivers to race and be competitive. For 2009 it will maintain a national championship. If we continue to have problems with sponsored drivers trying to run in this class it could very well become a division only class in the future. Hopefully the new regulations will solve this problem.

Gas Truck. as announced at the Finals Gas Truck will no longer be a national class for RC Pro. It will be an option class for the state series.

Monster Truck. Monster Truck will remain in the national series for 2009. The rules will be changed somewhat. In an effort to increase interest we will be going old school with the rules. Hopefully this will bring out more brands and some of the many trucks sitting at home. There will be a few simple rules for this class. We are currently reviewing the rules but here is what we have now so a few things may be added to this before the end of the month.
1). Trucks must be manufactured as a monster truck.
2). Must maintain the 1.5 inch motor height rule.
3). Electric is legal in this class but must maintain a minimum weight which is under review. Also make required stops to be decided per event.
4). No engine size limit. Yes the .46 CEN is legal.
5). Single fuel tank no size limit. Yes the LST 2 tank is legal.
In past years this class has shown a lot of inventive thinking and we hope to bring that back. There will also be a name change for this class. The Monster Truck name does not express the type of racing involved so we are looking for a better name. Also the Monster Truck name does not get the respect this class deserves so hopefully a name change can help this along with a request to the announcers and race directors to treat this class with more respect. This class is a perfect place for racers to start but when new racers go to a track and see the lack of respect  the class gets why would they want to try it?

Electric 1/8. Rules are forthcoming for this class. The electric class will be ran separate from the Nitro class. The main thing at this time is deciding whether to make it a state series class only or a national series optional class. The largest concern about making it a national series class is that it doesn't have enough interest at this point to justify that. It may be better to build the class by making it a state series or division only class to build interest and lead to a national class.

Press Release

Fri Nov 28, 2008 4:37AM

We would like to welcome
Custom Model Car Australia and Xray as sponsors for our RC Pro Australia event in July.

It's come to our attention that signup for the RC Pro Australia event needs a little further explaining.

Signup for the race is not open yet but entries will only be taken through RC Signup.

You must register a profile on rcsignup.com. We suggest you take the time to do this now since it takes several steps to complete but once it's done you will be able to enter any race listed on rcsignup.com in the future in just a few seconds.
Rcsignup.com is making changes to accept more international drivers. They have already added the states for Australia but if you are from a country that does not have the states listed yet there is a space to insert your state during registration, this must be there to complete the registration. Because this is an International event with possible registration from multiple countries is the largest reason we are asking for everyone to please do their site registration early just in case there are glitches in the system they can be addressed now before actual race registration begins. We don't want anyone to miss out on this event.

Once entries are open for the RC Pro Australia event it will only take a few seconds to signup if you already have the profile step taken care of on rcsignup.com. Considering the emails we are receiving it appears this race will fill fast and speed may be important just for signup.

Interesting Facts

Thu Nov 20, 2008 1:33AM

This year like last year the Finals track developed holes and ruts just like a MX track. Something to consider though
The scoring system logged 32,367 laps from Tuesday 11/4/08 to Sunday 11/9/08. Meaning in 5 days racing since we didn't race on sunday there was 32,000 lap turned. On Tuesday the scoring system didn't run but maybe the latter half of the day but just for figuring we will say we had 13 hours of track time each day for 5 days. That comes to about 498 laps an hour. Hmmm I think the track held up pretty well for that amount of laps.

International Finals Report

Fri Nov 14, 2008 2:18PM

Tex Christopher put together a great report on this years International Finals and I doubt I could improve on it so with his permission I will repost it here.

Many of the top racers in the country pulled up their gear and came to Texas for a sure to be epic battle in Truggy and Buggy racing. The RC Pro Series, under the direction of Carlton Epps, held its yearly Finals event in the Diamond W Arena in Alvaredo. This centrally located facility is truly a world class venue when it comes to RC racing. Features include a full grill, bar and lounge area inside the covered arena which also houses lockable stall areas for racer’s gear. The track was 260’ x 120’ with a sandy loam to start the week. Also on site was a wonderful hobby shop setup that was a mix of two local shops. Indy RC World and T&T RC Cars did a good job of supplying any and all of the goods that racers needed or wanted at reasonable prices.

Did I tell you that the arena had sandy loam? That is what I thought on practice days. By the upper mains on Saturday the track had a fair amount of ruts and holes and the surface was far from what one would call a good traction surface. Not only was it hard as a rock, it was dusty with very fine sand on top as well. These drivers would be tested in every corner for their wrenching, driving and general survival skills.
Traxxas Driver Steve Slayden showed us what is up with this sweeping Slash phenomenon. This guy just checked out in this exhibition class.
Tim Roberts repeated as the man to beat in Monster Truck in his MoJoe powered Revo. In Gas truck Dennis Allison set the TQ and posted a victory. The Intermediate Truggys lead the field out with Nic Day on the pole. The finishing order was the hard charging Jason Grant taking the win followed by Matt Sistrunck and your TQ Nic Day in third.
Intermidiate Buggy saw the same top two drivers with winner Jason Grant proving he is the guy to beat in long mains. Int. Buggy TQ Matt Sistrunck followed in second while Trent Kirk finished out the field.

Expert Truggy and Buggy saw some new faces emerge as 2008 marked the first year where Pro Drivers would be a different class in the RC Pro Series. In Expert Arena Truck someone said GO! That was all that TQ Scott Cramer needed to hear. He was virtually unchallenged in qualifying as well his first A main win with his O'Donbell powered O'Donnell truck. Mike Jackson and Colbey Alleman finished the order.
The Expert buggy class would not be the same as the truck class were for Scott. Chris Allison set the TQ mark in a highly contested field and started on the pole. An early issue forced him to the back of the pack as John Perez stretched his legs in his new MBX-6. Soon all of the positions became contested as none of the field gave way. In the end a young Jake Dillenger proved his metal by keeping smooth and steady on his way to victory over veteran racers John Perez and Brandon Howe.

The Pros truly showed why they are Pros. Everyone in the building knew that the track had gotten to the point where it was almost undrivable. The guys put on a tremendous show. With field chalked full of Worlds team drivers, Ryan Cavalieri put his AE RC8T/Orion truck on the pole. Very shortly in the 45 minute main he started to feel the pressure of Kyosho’s Cody King and Ryan Lutz. However, once Lutz got an inch he took a mile. When he was done…he took another one all the way to victory. Ryan Cavalieri managed to hold the rest of the field for a second place finish. Steven Hartson managed to get around the likes of Cody King and Josh Wheeler among others, for third place.
In Pro Buggy it was TQ Cody King who would face the pressure of the field. At the 15 minute mark Ryan Lutz put his car out front to establish that he was the guy to beat. Ryan Cavalieri would answer the call and pressure Lutz for the rest of the race. The racers exchanged leads a couple of times when suddenly Lutz placed a hard pass on Cavalieri coming up the left side of the track. Cav gathered his car up but would never really recover to make a serious venture towards the lead. As they pushed harder and harder both drivers would bobble, spin and flip wildly out of control on the very unforgiving surface. When they recovered their cars and wiped the dust away, it was Ryan Lutz finishing 5 seconds ahead of Cavalieri. Cody King, Josh Wheeler, Taylor Peterson, Gene Hickerson, Leon McIntosh and other notables rounded out the field.

Special Congratulations goes to Ryan Lutz and Kyosho for becoming the 2008 RC Pro Series Champion in both truck and Buggy.
A special Thank You needs to go out to INDY RC World and T&T RC Cars for taking care of the racer’s needs.
Carlton Eppes puts on a great event but when you couple this to Paul & Mike Garrison's announcing and the Diamond W arena facility, it becomes an event no racer should miss. I am thoroughly excited about 2009 and the prospects it brings for the RC Pro Series.
Summary------World Class!
